Crazy Communism Tour!
Our (intended) last day in Krakow was spent in chocolate shops and riding in tiny Communist cars.
Charlotte, Valarie, Neal and I spent our morning free time looking for chocolate and other goodies. The chocolate shop we ended up in was kind of an accident, but the chocolate was fabulous and they had all flavors and shapes and sizes. Including a full chocolate replica of the church.
We also browsed the shops for cool souvenirs. I think most of the girls came away from this trip sporting some kind of amber jewelry. It was everywhere!
Then we found the cupcake shop Charlotte was raving about. Personally, I was more intrigued by the post-it-notes on the wall, and added my own memo to the collection.
10 points if you guess which one is mine
We're so cute! - artwork by Charlotte
We're not nearly as cute in real life
Then we hung out with the pigeons, cause they were hard to avoid. Several of us fed them, though Charlotte was getting the run-around from one pigeon
But they ended up friends
Some of the pigeons were so ambitious they would make friends with us.
And that's how Patrick found Neal
Pigeons are pretty funny, though also really disgusting. It probably wasn't our brightest idea to pet them
Then we began the Crazy Communism tour! These guides took us all around Krakow showing us the important monuments and developments during the Communist era in Poland. Furthermore, they drove us around in the tiniest cars - which made the ride half the fun!
Our stops included: a restaurant styled from the era, where we ate pickled herring. A new experience for most of us, I think.
A tank.
A communist-era styled apartment, where we were "brainwashed" with propaganda.
And finally, a church that was built on the condition that it wasn't allowed to "look like a church"
So it looks like boat instead!
I apologize for the delay in posts. Krakow was fun, and school is getting busy and I can't believe I only have a month left here! Where did the time go?
