Crazy Communism Tour!

Image
Our (intended) last day in Krakow was spent in chocolate shops and riding in tiny Communist cars. Charlotte, Valarie, Neal and I spent our morning free time looking for chocolate and other goodies. The chocolate shop we ended up in was kind of an accident, but the chocolate was fabulous and they had all flavors and shapes and sizes. Including a full chocolate replica of the church. We also browsed the shops for cool souvenirs. I think most of the girls came away from this trip sporting some kind of amber jewelry. It was everywhere! Then we found the cupcake shop Charlotte was raving about. Personally, I was more intrigued by the post-it-notes on the wall, and added my own memo to the collection. 10 points if you guess which one is mine We're so cute! - artwork by Charlotte We're not nearly as cute in real life Then we hung out with the pigeons, cause they were hard to avoid. Several of us fed them, though Charlotte was getting the run...

Arriving to Krakow, Poland

Image
Welcome to Krakow! Not, really, but come and travel with me through time and space and relive my adventures! I don't know where I'm going with this, but we spent the past weekend in Krakow, Poland and got to see and experiences some cool, dark and crazy things.  We begin with art: Fresh from the night train we met up with a tour guide who took us around the Old City of Krakow. Here is the gate from the original walls In the center of the square the Cloth Hall stands open, full of souvenirs and traditional Polish goods like furs, carvings, and amber. So much amber. Pictured below is the St. Mary's Church, the most famous church in the Old City. It's two towers stand distinctly unique from the other and at every hour of every day, a bugle is played from the top window out into the city. A park dressed up for Autumn Unbeknownst to most of us, Krakow has a large Christmas Crib contest where artists compete to create a beauti...

Jerusalem, Israel

Definitely the busiest day of our trip, Jerusalem was a marvelous wonder. We got up at 4:30 in the morning and caught the first bus there so we'd have the entire day at our disposal. Here was our first glimpse of the Old City: We began the day at the Western Wall, which was personally meaningful to me. As I sat in the morning stillness, early enough that their weren't other tourists to crowd the area, I had the chance to pray and reflect, and I think that it was the perfect way to start off our soon-to-be packed day. Navigating the narrow winding streets was disorienting at first, but soon we managed to navigate our way through the city pretty well. The signs helped too. . During our morning adventures we found a church of the birth place of Mary View of the city from the base of Mt. of Olives View from the Mt. View from the Mt. The walls of the Old City The Dome of the Rock Our adventure to the top of Mt. Olives wasn't t...
